The error is caused because the student attempted to submit a file containing less than 20 words of text and Turnitin cannot process a file with less than 20 words of text. The error cannot be resolved.
Here are the steps that need to be followed:
The M14:11 TurnItIn error
It is often "Your session has expired. This paper is not available," signals an issue processing a paper, usually due to not meeting the minimum words (20) of text, complex formatting like vector images (AI, EPS) or non-standard PDF converters, sometimes triggered by an image on the first page or visual text effects. The main fixes involve correcting the error in the assignment submission."
· Secure a copy of the student’s assignment.
o Download the submission if it is available or ask the student to email you a copy.
· After confirming you have a saved copy, remove (delete) the original submission.
o Open the grading panel.
o Click the grading pen icon. This will generate a Grading Template for the student, allowing you to manually enter a grade.
o Once the Grading Template is created, input the correct grade.
o In the Feedback section, include the following note:
o “Graded via Grading Template due to Turnitin Error.”
-----------------------------
The challenge we face is that when we have TurnItIn assignments that require the submission of a link to a video or presentation, the link itself would not meet the 20-words of text minimum required to be processed by TurnItIn. We have done a good job of telling students to add a cover page, but have found that even with their cover page, their submission is still below that 20-word minimum.
The recommendation is to have students not only do a cover page, but also a brief (1-2 sentence) introduction of their assignment submission.
